Edgar Goluch

Graduate Student - Microfluidics

Edgar received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering with distinction from the University of Illinois in 2003. As an undergraduate, Edgar's research, under the direction of Dr. Huimin Zhao , focused on directed evolution techniques, with specific application to increasing the binding affinity of human estrogen receptors for non-native ligands.  In the summer of 2003 he joined the MASS Group, and received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2005.  His thesis was entitled "Development of a Microfluidic Biobarcode Assay for Protein Detection".

He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Society, and the Society of Biological Engineers. He is a member of the student advisory board for NSEC. His teaching experiences include General Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering.  He has been included on the incomplete list of teachers as excellent.  He is a recipient of the 2006 Mavis Scholarship.

Edgar is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Bioengineering.  His current research involves the development of biological sensors using microfluidics and bionanotechnology for medical diagnostic applications. He has authored or co-authored 20 journal and conference papers in this area.
