Neuromasts

The fish lateral line organ is a linear array of flow sensing elements called neuromasts.  Each neuromast, in turn, is a collection of haircell flow sensors.  Fluid flow imparts drag force on the hair, and causes the neurons to fire.  The lateral line is responsible for rich fish behavior underwater, such as tracking predators and prey, schooling, etc.
